18TH ANNUAL CASCADE FESTIVAL OF AFRICAN FILMS
Founded in 1991 by four Portland Community College faculty members, the Cascade Festival of African Films has expanded from four films viewed by 400 people to a month-long festival with over 4000 in attendance, featuring 20 contemporary African films.
The Cascade Festival of African Films is offered to the public free-of-charge to raise awareness in the Portland area for modern African filmmaking. The Festival encourages community involvement through after-film discussions and informal receptions where viewers can speak directly with African filmmakers.
Films purchased by the Festival comprise one of the Pacific Northwest’s largest libraries of African films. Housed in the library of Portland Community College, the African Film Library is accessible year-round to students, faculty and staff, and the general public.
The Festival kicks off on February 1st with an opening night gala and the film Days of Glory / Indigenes at the Hollywood Theatre and closes on March 1 with the film 34 South.
