The Harambee Centre is a Portland, Oregon non-profit focused on, multicultural education, cross-cultural exchange and African community development. ‘Harambee’ is Swahili for “let’s pull together,” a concept representing the power of a group to act as a change agent: the organization logo is the Ashanti adinkra symbol for strength.
Harambee directly supports education and health projects in Africa, education and cultural programs in the United States, and seeks to connect people and groups in both places. Harambee believes that multicultural education and inter-cultural exchange are essential to building genuine understanding, respect, and enduring relationships among diverse peoples.
To implement long-term projects, a high value is placed on collaboration with groups and individuals. Choosing the Harambee Centre as your choice for Swahili’s donation will help to maintain projects like the Sampa girl’s dormitory in Ghana: the building accommodates 160 girls who otherwise would not have the opportunity to receive a high school education.
