Soapstone mining and carving provide an income for many people in the Kisii region of Kenya. The soft stone lies in huge deposits under the feet of the Gusii people, who exhibit a special knack for producing high quality sculpture for local and export markets. We work with producers in Nairobi who add unique hand painted finishes to the raw forms. This footed soap dish features the African mudfish.
