Artisans mine and carve soapstone, also known as kisii stone, from extensive quarries in western Kenya's Kisii Town. Artisans in Nairobi then hand paint a dark blue finish featuring the mudfish, or lungfish, a unique fish found in some African waterways that can actually breathe air.
