Handmade Kenyan Sisal Shopper in Ocean
#pk29d
This gorgeous handmade Kenyan sisal shopper is crafted by rural Kamba women living near Kitui, Kenya. By working in a cooperative spirit, the group has grown from 25 initial members to over 900, and their work brings an income to over 4500 family members! Sisal was introduced to Kenya in the late 1800s, and today Kenya provides the world with a large portion of this sturdy material. The Kamba women who craft these shoppers adapted their traditional weaving methods to utilize sisal, and the result is beautiful!
