Artisans mine and carve soapstone, also known as kisii stone, from extensive quarries in western Kenya's Kisii Town. Artisans in Nairobi then apply a vibrant hand painted finish featuring a stylized version of the giant of the savanna, the African elephant. The natural dyes used will change color if they contact liquid, so we recommend this dish for decorative use only.
