This highly detailed decorative soapstone plate comes to us from Kenya. The plate's raw form is hand carved by artisans in Kisii Town, where extensive deposits of this metamorphic rock are found. Artisans in Nairobi dye the plate with a pattern inspired by Kuba cloth from the Congo.
