This item is handmade from 100% soapstone, also known as kisii stone. Kisii stone is mined in the Tabaka Hills of western Kenya, and the creation of each kisii stone item requires a network of artisans. Carvers in Kisii Town mine and convert the raw stone into a variety of shapes, drivers pack and transport the carvings to Nairobi, and artists decorate the shapes with beautiful hand painted designs inspired by African art, textiles, symbols and wildlife. For dry use only; moisture affects the coloration of the natural dyes.
