Malian Indigo Mudcloth Purse

Malian Indigo Mudcloth Purse

Mali

In Mali, indigo plants grow on the Dogon plateaus and are used to create the dyes used for the blue robes of the nomadic Tuareg, as well as for Dogon funerary garments and Maraka clothing and accessories. Since a naturally-occurring blue dye was hard to come by before synthetics appeared on the scene, the growing, processing and selling of indigo always brought prosperity. To this day, in the African regions where indigo is used, the color represents wealth.

Couple that rich history with contemporary abstract patterns inspired by traditional mudcloth, or bogolan, and you have our striking Malian indigo purse.
