Kenyan Elephant Box

Elephants roam freely across the vast expanse of The Masai Mara National Reserve in south-western Kenya. In tribute to the giants of the African savanna, this hand carved stone box features a walking elephant pull and bold patterning inspired by African textiles.

In the Gusii highlands of Kenya, miners pull large chunks of soapstone, a metamorphic rock similar to talc, from deep quarries. Kenyan soapstone, called kisii stone after the Kisii District where it is found, is soft and has a soapy texture, and carves easily into beautiful sculpture and daily use items.
