Our Ebony and Ivory pillow juxtaposes a simple piece of Malian mudcloth with cotton panels, implying a  unification of black and white cultures through a commonly loved element, in this case Malian mudcloth. A fringe of sand cast beads adds motion and classifies the pillow as a true piece of West African functional art.

 

While the tradition of creating African bogolan, or mudcloth, used to be handed down from mother to daughter, today's mudcloth is celebrated as a national craft, and as such is created by a variety of rural and urban, male and female artisans.
