Handcrafted Kuba Cloth Triangular Wall Mirror |
Country of Origin
Kenya
This unique African wall mirror combines a triangular shape with highly textured Kuba cloth, a cut pile textile crafted by the Kuba people of the Republic of Congo. According to the African Conservancy, the Kuba believe that high quality, correctly patterned raffia dress is key to being recognized by clan ancestors in the land of the dead, so families accumulate the cloths and pass them down through the generations. Many of the ceremonies where Kuba cloth would have been used are no longer practiced, but the popularity of this bold textile around the world allows Kuba weavers to continue their craft. |
