Mudcloth is a traditional textile of the Bamana people of Mali. Traditional mudcloth, known as bogolanfini, was only created by women and the symbols used held specific meanings for both the creator of the textile and the recipient.

The popularity of mudcloth's bold patterns around the world has contributed greatly to the evolution of the craft. Modern mudcloth is created on larger sheets of lighter weight woven cotton by both men and women using a contemporary symbol system.
