InStyle July 2010

The July 2010 edition of InStyle magazine features a summery Cameron Diaz on the cover and our ever-popular Wolof laundry hamper in yellow and white in the Life, Etc. section on page 222.

 

The growing popularity of our Wolof hampers is bringing prosperity and stability to the ladies involved in the weaving project. A major accomplishment for the summer involved the construction of a storage facility for completed baskets. The association that heads up the basket project reserves a portion of profits for projects that benefit the whole group. Swahili Imports contributed an additional $500 to initiate the construction of the building.

The completed structure will house finished baskets, keeping them from being exposed to the weather and allowing packaging and quality control to occur well before shipments depart.

Leslie is returning to Senegal in September 2010 to touch base with the ladies and develop new baskets and colorways. We have high hopes that the project will continue to provide a stable income for the more than 100 women involved in this basket weaving association.
