Kente cloth is a textile of the Akan peoples of West Africa. Originally a sacred royal cloth only worn by kings, modern Kente cloth is woven for an international audience that appreciates the cloth's vibrant coloration, intricate patterning and symbolism. Our beautiful Kente cloth scarf is handcrafted in Ghana by the weavers of TY Kente, established in 1992 by expert weaver Thompson Yao Avornyotse. Avornyotse hails from the Volta region of Ghana and learned the art of Kente weaving from his grandfather. The entrepreneur is using his success to educate his community about the importance of Kente cloth through a Kente library and museum.
