Serengeti Zebra Bowl

Gusii artisans in rural western Kenya hand carve this sweet plains zebra catch-all bowl from soft soapstone, a metamorphic stone similar to talc. Since most Kenyan soapstone is mined in the Kisii District, the stone is known specifically as "kisii stone". Carving useful items from kisii stone brings supplemental income to several families in the district.

This subtly colored catch-all bowl features a resting plains zebra on the rim and a faded hand-dyed olive green finish. The bowl was designed to coordinate with our Plains Zebra soapstone sculpture.
